What is StoryCode Web Services?

Web services are self-contained functions that can be published and invoked across the web using XML-based protocols. StoryCode Remote Services (SRS) provides functions for directly accessing StoryCode's technology platform and data, allowing website owners and business operators to leverage the power of our recommendations service to increase customer awareness of titles available through standard book catalogues. You can access StoryCode Remote Services through an XML over HTTP (also called "XML/HTTP. A SOAP interface is in development and will be ready for release by summer 2006.

When did StoryCode launch StoryCode Web Services?

StoryCode launched StoryCode Remote Services in March 2006, in response to customer interest in StoryCode's data.

 

Using StoryCode Remote Services

Now that I have an account, how do I start making calls to StoryCode Web Services?

Your StoryCode Remote Services account gives you access to all of our available web services. You may call these web services at any time using your unique access code.

What are StoryCode Web Services account identifiers?

Your account identifier is a code that's unique to your subscription - think of it as a special password. It is used to track queries made from your site or service to the Storycode program

What are the rules for using StoryCode Web Services?

Please see the StoryCode Remote Services Licensing Agreement for full information on supported uses of StoryCode Remote Services.

Is it free to use StoryCode Web Services?

Please contact our Technical Support staff at srs-support@storycode.co.uk. In order to help our team respond in a timely fashion please provide as much detail as you can, including code samples, your SRS access code and the method you used to try to access our services (REST, SOAP etc)

What if I need help using StoryCode Web Services?

Can I request new features?

Your Web Services account details are tied to your StoryCode account. If you didn’t have a StoryCode account when you signed up for Web Services one will be created for you. To access your Web Services details simply log into the site through the My Account link in the navigation bar at the top of any page on the site.

Account Billing

When will StoryCode charge me for web services I sign up for?

You will be charged on your StoryCode Remote Services billing date, which is always the first of the month.

How will I pay StoryCode for web services?

You can pay for StoryCode Remote Services through PayPal - we will be increasing the range of payment options ove the coming months.

Will the price of a web service I sign up for ever change?

Yes, it is possible that the price of a web service will change. We will notify you via e-mail at least thirty days before the new price goes into effect. If you do not wish to continue using the web service at the new price, you may cancel the web service by going to your my Account page.

Is there a minimum commitment period for web services with subscription pricing?

Yes, at the present time, there is a one-month minimum commitment for web services with subscription pricing. At the time you sign up for a web service with subscription pricing, you will be charged for one full month starting on the day you sign up.

For web services with subscription pricing, does StoryCode charge me in advance or in arrears?

StoryCode will always charge you in advance for web services with subscription pricing. On the first day you sign up for a web service with subscription pricing, Amazon will charge you for one full month. For example, if you sign up for a web service that costs $30/month on August 15, Amazon will charge you $30.00 on August 15, which will cover access to the web service through September 14.
